Enhanced Search Box

Download

This is a super simple Wordpress plugin that simply adds some nice un-obtrusive Javascript functionality to the basic search box. This works out-of-the-box on a Wordpress search box once activated and gives you the ability to control the default search text from the admin panel.

jQuery

Enhanced Search box is built using jQuery and includes jQuery 1.3.2 from the Google AJAX Libraries API. In the admin panel you are given the option to not include jQuery, if you are already including a similar version (Enhanced search works from at least jQuery 1.2.6 & up) or if you are already using a plugin that is including jQuery.

Enhanced Search Box Benefits

  • Allows control over the default search box text from the Wordpress Admin
  • Clears the default search text when the search box is focused
  • Does not clear user-created search text
  • Replaces the default search text when the search box is unfocused if no new text has been added

Enhanced Search Box Installation

  1. Upload the ‘enhanced-search-box’ folder to the ‘/wp-content/plugins/’ directory
  2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
  3. Set the default search text in the admin panel under ‘Settings’

Frank. Thanks for the feedback! I fixed the initial issues that were found. Everything should be working correctly in version 0.5.3, which can be downloaded here: 0.5.3.

Let me know if you run into any other issues.

How do i implement it into my site? I’ve installed an activated but the search box isn’t showing up on my page.

It doesn’t show a search box, it just enhances the search box. You need to add a search box based off of the Wordpress default theme and then it will enhance it with javascript and the backend features.

    Hello jake,
i am a newbie so please have a little understanding. I have learnt the use of WP in less than a week and I am totally addled.
I am using WP 3.0 and theme Twenty-Ten.
Your plug-in works definitively, but I have a question/favour to ask.
I have downloaded your “Enhanced Search box” because i did not even know how to activate the so called “standard” one on my pages.
After having downloaded your plug-in i can see the “search box” option in the widget list and I have activated it on a sidebar.
    It worked fine.
But would it be possible to have it in the menu bar instead of the side bar? Even copying and pasting pieces of codes by editing some lines of “something”.php?
I did already some little editings to correct bugs of other plug-ins or creating new php files with given pieces of codes.
Sorry for the arrogance but I am trying hard and I am fighting to understand a lot in little time. Please forgive if i am embarassing.
